What Is It

Holter Monitoring (Ambulatory ECG)

A Holter monitor is a small wearable device that records your heart's electrical activity continuously for 24 hours up to 14 days.

Unlike a resting ECG which only captures a few seconds, Holter monitoring records during your normal daily activities, greatly increasing the chance of detecting intermittent rhythm abnormalities. Your recording is analysed within 24 working hours by a qualified reporting physiologist.

Ideal for investigating palpitations, unexplained dizziness, or suspected atrial fibrillation that a short ECG may miss.

Why you might need Holter monitoring

Common reasons patients book this test
  • Palpitations or racing heart
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Unexplained dizziness or fainting
  • Breathlessness without clear cause
  • Suspected atrial fibrillation (AF)
  • Monitoring after cardiac treatment
  • GP or specialist referral for rhythm assessment
